John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park (~5 minutes)
Start here. The park has two beaches: Cannon Beach, where submerged Spanish cannons and a replica 17th-century shipwreck sit just offshore in shallow water — some of the best shore snorkeling in Key Largo, right from the sand. Far Beach is the quieter, shadier option if you'd rather just relax. Small entrance fee. Bring water shoes; the bottom is rocky.

Harry Harris Beach Park (~10 minutes, in Tavernier)
The family pick. A sheltered swimming area with calm, shallow water, two playgrounds, picnic areas with BBQ grills, and restrooms/showers. Free on weekdays; small fee on weekends and holidays. Easy to spend the whole day and stay for sunset.
